Different printing methods

Sublimation Technology

Sublimation coverts the ink pigment into a vapour or gas when heat is applied to a base white fabric. The pigment then becomes part of the fabric which means colours remain vibrant and brilliant for the life of the garment.

This modern technique of design application allows your team wider scope to customise kit with a whole range of colours and designs. All colours, numbers and designs are sublimated instead of traditional 'cut and sew' and printing methods.

Crewroom offers a range of sublimated products with pre-designed patterns which can be adapted to incorporate your team's colours and logos. Alternatively, design your own pattern, give us your artwork and we'll dye it directly into the fabric1.

1 Subject to inspection to ensure artwork is suitable for sublimation. See notes on 'Setting up Your Artwork'.

Embroidery

This produces a high quality finish ideal for small size logos and crests.

Screen Printing

Works well for large prints such as jacket backs and won't compromise the waterproof ness of the fabric. Prints can also incorporate elastine for use on stretch fabrics. Set-up costs make screen printing suited to higher volume orders.

Appliqué

Nylon twill letters or numbers are sewn in one or two colours - a great solution for large embroideries on the back of jackets.

Setting Up Your Artwork

All artwork should be submitted on disk and saved in a PC drawing package, ideally Illustrator in EPS format. All artwork must be converted to path/curves (vector format) to avoid loss of resolution during resizing.

If artwork is supplied in stationery format or in another digital format other than mentioned above such as JPG, BMP, TIF etc an hourly artwork fee will be charged for turning artwork into a usable format.

Sublimation Design Tips

If you'd like to use your own design on sublimated garments, please bear in mind some useful tips:

  • Artwork cannot cross seams. For example, if you want a stripe design from the sleeve to the main body, we would not be able to line the stripe up perfectly on different sizes.
  • Very fine lines do not print well. Lines should be larger than 2mm and type larger than 6mm.
  • Avoid complicated fades or half-tones. Fades printed at high dpi tend to bleed.
  • All logos remain the same size on all pieces. This means that all your logos must be sized to fit the smallest garment in your order.
  • If specifying a colour, please send colour samples for us to match. Be aware that although sublimation printing is precise, slight variations sometimes occur. Colour shades can also vary between different fabrics.
  • The price of each item is based on a maximum of 3 colours. If more colours are used, additional charges may be incurred. NB: there are not set-up fees per colour on Crewroom branded products.
